HVL’s August meeting celebrated “All things Yorkshire”
60 members and guests enjoyed “A rate good do !!”at The Lodge Rooms in August where HVL celebrated “All Things Yorkshire! “. The evening kicked off in the true spirit of Freemasonry, with friends old and new, chatting and enjoying a Yorkshire aperitif and canapes to celebrate “God’s Own County”. The Lodge opened in the First Degree and then members and guests were treated to 3 lectures themed on Yorkshire. The first lecture, covering the life and career of Harold Wilson was given by Bro. Grahame Basnett. This interesting insight into Huddersfield’s famous son was followed by WBro. Brian Martyn’s informative lecture on The Marquis of Ripon, who became Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England from 1861 to 1869. Finally, Bro Martin Wright presented an amusing lecture on Bamforths’ of Holmfirth, pre-eminent in the publication of saucy seaside postcards! Harry Bamforth, grandson of the firms founder was a member of HVL 652 in the early 1900’s
Harmony followed and we were spectacturlarly entertained by Johnny B Good who delighted members with their repertoire of rock and roll clsssics
