The Orient Express pulls into Holme Valley Lodge

On Saturday 29th September Holme Valley Lodge hosted a gastronomic feast themed around the  fabulous Orient Express train.

Over 40 Brethren and guests were invited to a black tie, candlelit evening to sample the culinary delights of 6 countries as we sped our way from boarding in Paris  to our destination of Istanbul.

In Paris, guests were treated to French style  canapes

Stop 1 was Munich, where diners enjoyed a choice of German sausage, Vegetarian mushroom pate or Smoked salmon and sauerkrut

Stop 2 was Vienna, where the choices were: Austrian dumplings with chicken consommé, or Vegetarian spinach & potato dumplings with tomato fondue.

Stop 3 was Budapest where guests were tempted by a choice of Hungarian pancakes stuffed with beef brisket, Vegetarian baked lentil and homemade cottage cheese pancake or Chiken paprikash with fresh herb buckwheat and toasted almonds.

Stop 4 was Bucharest where we were able to choose from Romanian apple cake  and custard or a variety of cheeses with Romanian inspired condiments and crackers

On arriving at our destination, Istanbul,  travellers were treated to Turkish inspired petit fours.

During the journey we were entertained to an eclectic and atmospheric mix of songs from Julie Edwards on vocals and Edward Barnwell on piano.
